About

A reflection from Tim Fish, founder and president.

In the fall of 2023, I walked the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain that people have traversed for over 800 years. This spiritual journey offered profound insights that inspired the ethos of Two Chairs Studio:

  • Choose wisely - you can only carry so much

  • Embrace discomfort for true discovery

  • Build community through shared challenges

  • Find wisdom in simplicity - less is often more

These lessons resonated with the principles I've developed over 25 years in the independent school world, shaping my approach to consulting and reinforcing the importance of focused effort, embracing challenges, fostering community, and doing big things.

Two Chairs Studio was founded to engage in transformative work with a small number of schools and other purpose-driven organizations. Our name embodies our core values: being fully present, listening intently, and partnering in imagination and discovery. The "Studio" underscores our commitment to creative, action-oriented solutions.

We work as:

  • Consultants, using data to provide expert advice

  • Coaches, guiding individuals and teams to unlock potential

  • Facilitators, helping teams innovate and make decisions

Preferring in-person engagements, I often visit a school multiple times during a project, immersing myself in your community and culture.

Our goal is to help you become a transformative organization with strong, visionary leadership and a compelling, differentiated story about your future. Drawing inspiration from thought leaders like Peter Senge, Clayton Christensen, Roger Martin, Rita McGrath, Atul Gwande, Brene Brown, Michael Porter, Lisa Kay Solomon, and Jim Collins, as well as the daily work happening in schools, we collaborate to develop strategies that are:

  • Grounded in your unique reality

  • Aligned with your mission and values

  • Designed to build capacity and momentum

At Two Chairs Studio, we believe in the power of focused action. To make progress, you have to take the first step. Like the Camino taught me, the transformation journey requires careful preparation, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose. We're here to walk that path with you, helping you navigate challenges and seize opportunities.

Pull up a chair, and let's talk about the future you want to create for your school. Together, we'll chart the course toward realizing that vision.
